This post serves the following purpose: To clarify some key points and attitudes which are required for success and warn about things that could be a threat. If you are thinking about jumping into the home business world or you are a struggling home business owner, this article will be of help to you.
To be able to quit your 9 to 5 job and make your home business profitable, you need the following beliefs besides the quality of persistence. When you do have those beliefs, persistence is usually not even an issue anymore. So here they are:
Belief in the network marketing/home business owner profession.
Belief in your company and products.
Belief in yourself.
Belief in your prospects and team members.
Let’s address the first belief on the list.
Network marketing is a huge and growing industry, and product creators will always utilize affiliates to sell more of their products. Network marketing is really affiliate/referral marketing with a twist. A twist that is beneficial for those who aspire for financial freedom. However it would be silly and dishonest to not mention it’s dark side. The dark side you have to be aware of, especially if you want to belong to the industry and do your thing with 100% conviction.
There are sharks in the network marketing industry. Sharks who prey on people who have a lottery mentality when it comes to business. These companies and affiliates use misleading advertising to make success sound easy and they are trying to leverage people’s greed. They know that their sales and presentation techniques can get the kind of people into the business who will probably not make it. As long as they can get them to sign up and pay autoship, they don’t care. The advertising is just not honest about what it takes to succeed. The best and most transparent companies call people’s attention to their public, average income disclosure that shows the facts.
If you want to work in this industry, be honest and transparent.
Preying on uninformed, employee minded people with hopes is awful, and not only pyramid schemes do this.
Talking about pyramid schemes, it is often said that people only buy the product of an MLM company because they want to make money as distributors. It is my opinion that only dumb people would do that. How do you want to be successful in selling something that you don’t believe in or you couldn’t imagine using? Good luck with that. Some pyramid scams do make money initially – until they get shot down – because there are dumb and unethical people joining and promoting it.
Now, in many cases it is true that even though the person likes the product, the fact that they see the opportunity and want to make money with it plays a major part in their decision making. This is something that can’t be condemned, since the main reason most people show up at their job is to get paid. People “join” a job to make money, and the people who are above them on the corporate ladder are paid more. To me, the job system sounds like a real pyramid scheme. In a job, it can never occur that you make more money than someone above you, and even though your performance can get you a promotion, it is still not entirely sure that you’ll get one and your working hours will never decrease in spite of your promotion. Only the number of your responsibilities go up. In the home business arena, you can definitely earn more than your upline. The bottom line is: if you want to condemn MLM companies, because people join them to make money in the first place, then you have to condemn jobs too.
Here are the features of non-pyramid scheme business opportunities:
There are both distributors and plain customers of the products.
The commission percentage a distributor gets isn’t tiny.
The company awards customer acquisition and distributor acquisition equally. No positive discrimination for getting distributors.
The products have real value in the market place.
The company cares about customer experience and distributor education more than about just making $$$.
Before finding your “home”, you have to look at the leadership, the culture, the compensation plan and the products – and you have to use your gut instinct.
Once you sign up as an affiliate, your job is to get both customers and new affiliates. When you want customers, your promotion angle is the value of the products. There is a niche out there where the value of your products is exactly what people are missing and actively looking for. It can be the weight loss industry, internet marketing education industry etc..When you are trying to recruit, you emphasize the business opportunity side. It is simple as that, but some people still make the mistake of mixing up the two when they should not be doing it. They are marketing and leading with a business opportunity in the niche of active network marketing distributors, while talking about product benefits in the niche of people who are aching to start making money online.
The next thing to clarify is that what really matters is your performance. It is your sales and recruiting statistics. Don’t even focus on team building and duplication until you are at $25,000 per month. I’m not there yet either, so what do I do? I put all of my energy into being a producer. The best thing you can do for your team is to be an example and you can only be a real good example if you keep producing more and more. The only new distributor coaching that you should be doing besides the “welcome training session” is a weekly training or consultation.
